The Person of The Year "Nelson Mandela"
Nelson Mandela,with full name Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, was a South-African politician, lawyer, activist and philanthropist. He was first black President of South-Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was born in a royal family of an African Tribe. He graduated from University of Witwatersrand where he studied law. After his graduation, he started to fight with racism. He became involved in anti-colonial politics and he joined the ANC. While he was working as a lawyer, he arrested many times because of his activist behaviors. He influenced from Marxism and secretly joined the South African Communist Party. He started to rise to prominence and sat on its Central Committee. Although,he said that there would be non-violent protests, he helped founding Umkhonto we Sizwe.Moreover, he leaded to a sabotage campaign against the government. In 1962, he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Mandela served over 27 years in prison, an international campaign lobbied for his release in the meantime. After Mandela was released in 1990, he established multi-racial elections and became first black President of South Africa. During his government, he cared about land reform, combat poverty, expand health care services. He refused to join a second election and focused on charity. Mandela was a strong figure due to his fighting character. Although he was denounced as terrorist by a lot of people, he never gave up. Moreover, he won a lot of honours in addition to the Nobel Peace Price in 1993. He died in 2013, but he has deep respect in Africa and he is still described as the father of the Africa.
